Maphanga is a results-orientated professional with over eleven years of post-admission experience and a proven knowledge of, inter alia, competition law, commercial law, mergers and acquisition law, in various fields including telecommunications, National Credit Regulator, corporate governance and energy and the financial services.
Maphanga has recently acted for prominent public and private sector entities on competition law matters including merger filings/ notifications, Chapter 2 prohibited practices and market inquiries conducted in terms of the Competition Act.
He has acted for the Competition Commission in the Online Intermediation Platforms Market Inquiry in 2023. He has acted for, amongst others, Bidvest Group Limited, Telkom SOC SA Limited, Phembani Proprietary Limited, Exxaro Resources Limited, National Empowerment Fund, SacOil Holdings Limited (now Efora Energy Limited), CellSaf Proprietary Limited, National Credit Regulator, Telkom SOC SA Limited, Liberty Health Proprietary Limited and Sasol Limited on competition law and regulatory matters. He was the lead attorney for the National Credit Regulator in the matter between National Credit Regulator v Clark Gardner (NCRDC44).
Maphanga is currently involved in a high-stake insurance arbitration appeal against a leading insurer.
