Eduan is a seasoned lawyer and ex-investment banker with extensive transactional experience throughout Sub-Sahara Africa and other emerging markets. H is an admitted advocate and has acted as an advisor to pan-African businesses, serving on the boards of multinational African Companies.
As a city investment banker, Eduan was tasked with the development of both Japanese and non-Japanese business in the Europe, Middle East and African region for Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in respect of both debt (from vanilla to structured and limited recourse funding) and equity investments from 1996 to 2008, he subsequently headed the finance portfolio at a South African consulting firm, was a director at GEM during 2010 and 2012 and the director responsible for alternative asset management at AfroAsia Corporate Finance in 2013. Eduan has worked as founding partner and COO on the establishment and subsequent disbursement of two Sub-Saharan funds, both based in Mauritius, with responsibility for origination, closing and exiting fund investments into Sub-Saharan Africa.
Eduan joined TGR Attorneys in February 2020, heading up the Banking and Finance department and successfully advised clients on deal worth approximately R38bn in the past 30 months, before deciding to move to MVR Attorneys after a structured exit. His clients include sovereigns, multi nationals, investment banks, finance and PE companies. He has been actively involved – from origination, advisory, structuring to exit – in more than 150 major transactions in emerging markets; with an aggregate deal size of approximately US$ 42bn across 29 countries in Africa specialising, inter alia, in finance, work-outs and insolvency form a contractual perspective and the efficacy and enforceability of specific multi-lender SPV security arrangements.
